ANTECEDENTS OF QUALITY OF WORKING LIFE IN PRIVATE SECTOR IN NIGERIA: A STRATEGIC STANDPOINT

Abstract

This study explores the antecedents of quality of working life in the private sector in Nigeria. The study focused on participation, employee welfare, supervisory support, emphasis on training, and pressure to produce as the antecedents of quality of working life. A descriptive research survey was adopted for this study. A structured questionnaire was used to collect information from various respondents who were employees of Chi Limited. Two hundred questionnaires were distributed using a simple random technique to select respondents from the population. The data obtained were analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Descriptive statistics and Pearson Correlations were used to predict the relationship between independent and dependent variables. The study revealed that employee welfare, employee participation, the emphasis on training, supervisory support, and pressure to produce all had a significant relationship with the quality of working life. Though, the pressure to produce showed a negative relationship with the quality of working life while employee welfare, employee participation, the emphasis of training, and supervisory showed a positive relationship with the quality of working life. The study recommended that organizations should pay more attention to improving employee welfare, employee participation, the emphasis on training, supervisory support in the organization.
